  • I’m now in the midst of Fringe withdrawal.  In the meantime, here are some useful tips for Fringe performers from Andrew Wade (of The Hatter) and Tonya Jone Miller (of the London Fringe Impresario-winning Threads).
  • Yes, yes, a thousand times yes: Get It Together and Hire a Fight Director.  Brilliant.
  • David Blixt talks about The Rules of Violence – Part One, Part Two, and Part Three.  Writers and fans of the action genre — don’t forget about the humanity in the violence that you are writing about/viewing.  Quoted: “What a good story-teller can do is make taking a life work, re-create that commitment, and never make it casual or easy.”
  • Why Your Local Arts Scene is Dying.  Thoughts?  Personally, I think that the London Ontario arts scene is thriving, but we have almost the opposite problem — we’re nearly over-saturated with artists and theatre and events that people can’t make it out to everything.
  • I love this one: 13 Things Your Kid’s Camp Counselor Won’t Tell You.  My favourite is slide #2: “Your kid is a lot less shy and a lot more competent than you think.”  Seriously.  I deal with kids on a daily basis, and am astounded at how often a parent will underestimate their child and his/her abilities.  It makes me sad.  😦
  • Theatre Production 101: Don’t Do It Alone.  Don’t.  Seriously.  Another one from Andrew Wade.  He is touring his show across London, Toronto, Ottawa and Saskatoon.  A good lesson in time management.
  • 21 Things That Make Casting Directors Happy in the Audition Room.  This point is one of my favs: “Do your homework on the project. This includes knowing all the players and the show or film’s tone and style. Read all the material you can get your hands on.”
  • I am in love with this site: DisneyBound!  Adorable outfits inspired by Disney characters!
  • Are you having trouble thinking up new, original ideas?  Go back to basics — word association!  (Via Design Lovefest)
  • New obsession: Imgflip.com!  It’s an easy, free meme generator.  Hilarious!  Who knows… you could be the next Grumpy Cat!
