I’ve definitely been neglecting my running, and I can feel it — my body feels soggy and slow, and while I’m certainly not overweight, I’m not loving what the scale has been saying. So, under advisement of my friend Maggie, I’ve signed up for the Santa Shuffle 5k Fun Run in Toronto on December 7!
There are Santa Shuffle runs all over Ontario. There is also a 1k Elf Walk available for those who don’t want to run. It’s an untimed event, but you still get a race kit and bib, and all participants also get a medal (which, I’m not going to lie, I’m most psyched about!). The medals are pretty cool too!
Another reason that I’m excited about the Santa Shuffle is because not only will I be running with Maggie and her friends, but Shawn and his cousin Justin and his girlfriend Nicole will be running as well! This is the first race that Shawn and I will be running together, and I hope it won’t be the last! We’ve both been grumbling a lot recently about feeling out of shape, so I think this race will be great motivation for us!
I’ve never run in the winter before, so I’m not really sure what to expect (other than snow!). I’m a little worried about what to wear (as usual) but I’m sure whatever happens, I’ll be fine!
My goal is to run the full 5k. In past races I’ve had to walk part of the race. I have a month to train and improve my stamina, and I look forward to the challenge!
